She has also been able to help advocate for opening her home to help raise nephews, Pierre Malatare and Paul Malatare, nieces, Carolyn Malatare Madplume, Harriet Malatare, as well as being a Foster Parent to Woody and Charlyn Bigcrane, and two grandsons that she loved and cared for as her very own Basil Lefthand, D. Pierre III, and granddaughters Payton Lefthand, Salisha Pierre they’re mother, a niece Shawnda Lefthand.
Susan is preceded in death by her unborn twin children which couldn’t be carried to full term, her parents Basil Lefthand Sr.
Mary married Bud Hawkins and had four children: William (Pogo), Calvin, Owen (OD), and Julie Hawkins. She married Glenn Umphrey and had four children: Gwen Lee, Betty Lou, Cindy Lynn, and Billie Jo Umphrey.
Babe married Jesse James “Jake” Carpentier on September 14, 1968. Babe and Jake took many of their children’s friends under their wings. They did things and took neighborhood kids along on adventures to the lake or up in the woods.They started their large lovely family December of 1968, having a total of six children. Babe worked over the years at the old Dixon Post and Pole Yard, Head Start and a few other places.She was also known for her crocheted items and giving them as gifts. She was preceded in death by her husband Jake Carpentier, daughter Cynthia (Cindy) Carpentier, parents, Leo David and Jeanie (Senecal) David; brothers, Francis David, Albert David and Lenny David who died as a toddler. Su San Marie Lefthand Dowdall POLSON — Susan Marie Lefthand Dowdall, 60, died of complications of diabetes, which let to heart failure at her home in Finley Point. She graduated from Arlee High School May 1976 receiving post elementary education from Catholic Ursuline’s School than transferring to Arlee Schools graduated to earn her High School diploma.She begin her studies in Journalism, along that profession she loved photography.
She was accepted at Institute of American Indian Art School in Santa Fe, NM assuring her mother and father she would be careful driving home to visit when time would permit.She disturbed by the homeless, she was sadden to see all people living on the streets.She always said, “No matter what others think or say about you, never give up or let them get you down”. She loved beading, cooking, listening to music and being with her sister Pooyah.Armeld was an enrolled member of the Confederate Salish and Kootenai Tribe, preceded in death by his wife Gail C. He was preceded in death by both parents, Albert Trahan and Philomene Ducharme.Grandparents Jules Trahan and Cordelia Trembly on father’s side and Frank Ducharme Sr. Armeld’s siblings who preceded him in death were: Sidney Jules Trahan, Lyman Luke Trahan former council member, Lorena Angeline, Marie Cordelia, Theresa Emilia, Franklin Dennis Trahan, Mary.
